St Peter the Apostle is a GII listed medieval building and grounds situated in a semi-rural area 3 miles from the ancient city of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Many interesting features, including a 6 bell tower, church hall, upper and lower churchyards

The church of St Peter's has registered for HOD weekends for several years. All visitors will be welcomed by our volunteers who will act as tour guides around the church and grounds, this includes the bell tower. The church dates back to Norman times, the bell tower has 6 bells, one of which is 14thC from Kirkstall Abbey. This beautiful church has a lower and upper churchyard, the lower with French nuns graves who settled in the area during the 19thC. It is set in a beautiful semi-rural area with surrounding farmland, dwellings dating back to the 17th, 18th, 19thC. The church is on the Pennine Way and near a number of public footpaths. We will be offering various activities, exhibitions, arts, crafts and refreshments. A must for the budding historian, walkers and families.
