Saint Augustine's Church, Pendlebury

Saint Augustine's Church, Bolton Road, Pendlebury, Manchester, Greater Manchester, M27 8UX

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

The Grade One Bodley church (thought by some to be his best work) is not usually open except for services. It will be open on Saturday 7 September from 10am to 3pm and on Sunday 8 September from before the 11am service (lasts an hour) until 3pm.

The church is set back from the Bolton Road (the A666) in Pendlebury, Swinton in Salford City Council's area and in Greater Manchester. It was built at a time when the area was dominated by cotton mills and made to be seen above the mills. Bodley designed not just the church (and a tower that was never built) but also the complete design of the stained glass. It can be accessed either by walking through the churchyard from the Bolton Road or from the drive which heads to the (liturgically) west door of the church from the short street called, appropriately enough, Church Street. There is some limited parking space at the west door.
