Know your heritage: Height Library has been open since 1901 and is at the heart of the local community. For Heritage Open Days we will be exhibiting old photos of the area & the Library, & have a variety of heritage related activities happening.

Know your heritage at Height Library. During the Heritage Open Days event we'll have a display of old local photos of the Irlams O'Th Height area including the library and it's history, there will be some banners exploring the National Lottery funded Eccles Old Rd heritage project, and some dress-up and easy activities for children to enjoy too! On Saturday 7th September we'll have a heritage talk from Paul Speakman about Queen Victoria and her visit to Worsley, Salford and Manchester in 1851 (booking essential). On Thursday 12th September we'll also have a heritage wellbeing walk with the Salford Community Leisure active lifestyles team around some of the Height heritage conservation area and Lightoaks Park (drop in, no need to book).
The Height Library & Public Hall was officially opened on 29th March 1901, the land was a gift from Sir Percival Heywood as part of the Heywood estate and the library and public hall cost £6000 to build. A Bowling Green to the rear of the building was built soon after, and like the Library is still being actively used to this day.
