An opportunity to tour the remains of this 19th century coal mine. Visit the woodland area and the remains of the Dramway, engine house and horse gin. Donations welcome.

Coalpit Heath had many coal pits in earlier days. This is now the last remaining site, where we have the archaeology from the horse gin (horse-powered engine) as well as the steam engine and its chimney that replaced it. We have the original rods that held the engine in place. The coal bunkers, the arch and the start of the dramway, show the stones and the metal shoes that held the rails. The dramway brought coal to the river at Keynsham, from where it went by boat to Bristol and Bath.
It was closed around 1860.

The Friends of Ram Hill Colliery maintains the site.
