View and learn about the stunning Opus Sectile Mosaics in this Victorian church

The small, Victorian-built church of St John’s, on the Salisbury side of the town, is home to a striking and unique collection of Pre-Raphaelite mosaics, which adorn the walls of the chancel and the nave. The firm James Powell of Whitefriars Glass Foundry in London, created the mosaics in St John’s church between 1890 and 1920. Whitefriars was also responsible for mosaics in the choir and choir aisles in St Paul’s Cathedral, as well as examples in other churches of the period in England. Few, however, have such a large and beautiful display as St John’s. Come and find out how and why they were made and the stories behind them.
