Free military history tours of Outer Ward at Carlisle Castle

Explore the Outer Ward of Carlisle Castle on free guided tours. This area is normally only open to ticket holders, but for Heritage Open Days on 14th September 2024, join our friendly and knowledgeable volunteers to learn about the military use of Carlisle's mighty fortress. No admission charge for this tour, normal charges apply for Inner ward of the Castle (English Heritage) and Cumbria's Museum of Military Life.
Carlisle Castle will be part of a Free Family Heritage Trail alongside our friends at Carlisle Cathedral, Cumbria's Museum of Military Life and Tullie Carlisle. Copies of the trail will be available at the Castle Visitor reception and across the other 3 sites. An animal themed stamp can be collected at each location to earn a prize!
