Willen and Its Church - Guided Walk

St Mary Magdalene Church, Milton Road, Willen, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK15 9AB

  • 11 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

A guided walk around the village to see how the city’s most important architectural treasure, Robert Hooke’s Church of St Mary Magdalene, determined the layout of the new development in Willen in the 1980s. Tea and cakes at the church afterwards!

The Church of St Mary Magdalene was designed by the C17th century polymath Robert Hooke, who was Chief Assistant to Sir Christopher Wren on the rebuilding of London after the Great Fire in 1666. Listed Grade I, it is the single most important building in Milton Keynes and was used as an architectural focus when Willen Gridsquare was developed in the 1980s.

Come along and see how the design principles have been translated into reality and enjoy homemade refreshments afterwards.
