St Mark's Church, Lakenham, Norwich

St Mark’s Church (1844) is a Victorian church altered at the beginning of the 20th Century and extensively restored in 2010 after receiving grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It contains a gallery with the striking Temple Moore rood screen and some finely sculpted stations of the cross both donated by the Bignold family.

The War Memorial Chapel was renovated and the Temple Moore reredos, damaged in WW2, was restored in 2013/14 made possible by a further grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The original box pews can still be seen upstairs. Further adaptations have made our church more accessible and now we envision adaptations to improve our carbon footprint.

Our lighting has been recently upgraded with LED bulbs throughout Our urban churchyard is maintained by the City Council who leave mowing until late to encourage insects and butterflies and nesting birds and some areas are left untouched to encourage other wildlife. Foxes and a deer have been spotted this year. There is a fine war memorial and a war grave from WWI as well as many Victorian tombstones.
