Kingdom of Alms Walk
Pontefract Bus Station, Horsefair, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, wf8 1ez
'Alms giving' is the traditional expression for charitable relief.
Pontefract was once known as 'The Kingdom of Alms'. This was because no fewer than ten almshouses were founded in the town by the end of the 18th century, and many additional endowments were also made in cash and kind.
Almshouses were actually called 'hospitals' in medieval times.

Accessible toilets are available at the bus station.
The route is walking for those able bodied, though due to some narrow footpaths and the latter terrain by the castle, it is unsuitable for those with mobility issues. Town centre parking is available nearby and Pontefract has 3 rail stations, all within walking distance of the bus station.
