  • Multiple dates available
  • In person

An opportunity to see a small exhibition on the history of the church, built in 1827 to serve the new residential area , especially in connection with the Victorian Salviati and the modern Anna Wyner mosaics, with talks and children's activities.

The Belgravia area was developed in the 1820s and thirties to house the increasing population of London and the church was there from 1827 to serve it. Starting off as a simple Georgian church it was extended and beautified in the Victorian period by fine Salviati mosaics. Slightly damaged by a terrible fire in 1987 these are still in place at the east end, while the new interior picks up the mosaic theme in a striking composition by Anna Wyner in the new apse. There will be a small exhibition of key points in the buildings history and its links with the development of Belgravia from a wealthy fashionable place to the post-war declines on 13 September (2-5pm) with talks about the history and a chance to see the mosaics close up. This will continue on 14 September (10am-5pm) when additionally there will be activities for children. Tea and coffee will be available.
