Not only is 21 Portland Place one of London’s Georgian gems, it’s also the home of the Association of Anaesthetists and the Anaesthesia Heritage Centre!

Explore the richly decorated rooms of this Grade II*-listed 18th-century townhouse while learning about the world of anaesthesia and the vital role of anaesthetists. Whether you are an architect-lover or medical history aficionado, there’s something here for you!

For over 90 years, the Association of Anaesthetists has championed practitioners and advanced the specialty. A curated display of objects from our museum and archives will highlight its pivotal role in the development of anaesthesia.

Get hands-on with medicine by practicing the skills of an anaesthetist! Our very own anaesthetists will guide you through monitoring techniques, ventilating a mannequin, and administering injections, making you a doctor for the day.

Delve deeper into the history of anaesthesia in our museum, where you will have the chance to ask our expert volunteers are ready to answer all your questions.

There will also be a small exhibition by students enrolled in the the MA Art and Science Course (Fine Art) at Central Saint Martins, who will display their works inspired by our collection.

Our Heritage Open Day is a rare chance to visit our unique museum on a weekend and see rooms usually not accessible to the public. Join us for an entertaining and educating day at 21 Portland Place!
