Yellow Arch Studios
Yellow Arch Studios, 30-36 Burton Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S3 8BX
Yellow Arch Studios is one of the country's top music venues and recording studios. Since it opened in 1997, it has hosted recordings by artists such as Richard Hawley, Pulp, Goldfrapp, Kylie Minogue, Duane Eddy, Jarvis Cocker, Sister Sledge, James, Texas and Finley Quaye. It is probably best known as the studio where the Arctic Monkeys wrote and recorded their first album, and the area around it inspired their track 'When the Sun Goes Down'. The building started off life in the 1870s as a blacksmiths and wheelwright before becoming Clarence Works - a screw and bolt factory for the bridge and shipbuilding industries.
This guided tour by Andy Cook, one of the founders of Yellow Arch Studios, gives a glimpse into the building's industrial origins as well as its more recent music history. It also includes a chance to see the recording studio where the Arctic Monkey started their career.
