Wymondham Abbey - visits and tours.
Church Street,, Wymondham, Norfolk, NR18 0PH
Wymondham Abbey is one of South Norfolk’s prime tourist sites, with over 30,000 people visiting every year. We have fine displays explaining the fascinating history of the Abbey, the parish church and the town.
During the Heritage Open Days we will be doing regular guided tours of the church, explaining the history and features of this fascinating building. Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th tours are hourly and free. Other days by appointment with a small fee.
There will be a limited number of guided tours of the bell tower (Sunday 15th only), which will combine an explanation of bell-ringing with a view of our magnificent peal of ten bells.
The unique 'Wymondham Scroll' will be on display Friday 6th through to midday Wednesday 11th. Painted by local artist Patrick Boswell it is a 164ft long watercolour of street scenes of the Medieval and Georgian heart of the market town of Wymondham. This is only the second time it will have been displayed.
We will have artefacts and documents from our archives on display, some of which are over 500 years old. Our own archivist will be on hand to talk about the most important ones (Saturday 14th only).
Our café will be open, offering tea, coffee and cakes.
Our well-stocked shop will be selling books, pamphlets and souvenirs.
We will be operating a booking system for the tours (all are free, but spaces per tour are necessarily limited).
Keep an eye on our website for further details.
