Windows with Character - sash windows in Southport
The Engine Room, Wayfarers Arcade, Lord Street, Southport, Merseyside, PR8 1NT
The event begins with a walk around the town centre with the Townscape Heritage team to look at how sash windows contribute to Southport's built heritage and what happens when they are neglected or inappropriately replaced. This will be followed by a practical demonstration by Gary Houghton of Houghton & Hignett Ltd, local joinery manufacturers and constructors. He will show how a sash window works and what to do if a window is in poor condition. You'll find out about the mechanism and glazing, the process, tools and materials for making repairs correctly, and what to do when a window is beyond repair or glazing needs upgrading.
All participants will receive copies of the Guide to Maintaining Sefton's Historic Homes and the Guide To Improving Energy Efficiency In Sefton's Historic Homes.
This event is part of Southport Townscape Heritage Project's activities to share Heritage Skills and is made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
