Wherry Lines Posters
Lowestoft Railway Station, Denmark Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk, NR32 2EG
Railway posters are a much-loved and respected part of graphic design history from the early 20th-century, particularly the 1920s through to the 1950s. These hand-drawn artworks and striking text inspired holidays to the countryside, seaside and other destinations, boosting tourism and rail travel.
Wherry Lines Posters re-imagines the traditional railway poster of the early 20th-century and invites you to experience the awe-inspiring Norfolk and Suffolk Broads via the Wherry Lines railway.
The format and aesthetic of these new commissions, which go on display across railway stations county-wide in 2024, stays true to the originals. They feature an Aktiv Grotesk Extended typeface and double-royal sizing, a standard measurement for original railway posters.
Wherry Lines Posters features a contemporary twist; each artwork presented on the five posters is animated. You can activate these static images via your phone, tablet or device and bring the landscape to life. Watch as reeds sway, birds of prey hover above the marshes, blue dragonflies dart around and Greater Anglia trains shoot across in the distance.
The exhibition shows the creative process and final printed imagery.
