What is a Museum?
All museums have more things than they can possibly display... but what do they do with all that stuff?
We are at the start of an exciting new project to really understand our collections at the Museum of North Craven Life, generously funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, so come along and get involved.
Visitors can...
- pack and unpack a museum box, and see some of the weird and wonderful items we don't have on display
- find out about long-term storage of materials and how we make sure our artefacts are preserved for the future
- try photographing some museum items using our studio set up
- chat to our volunteers about their favourite objects
- help us identify places and even faces from the past using our historic photography collections

Entry to the Museum is via three uneven steps. Entry to the Coffee House via is four uneven steps with handrail. To access The Folly in a wheelchair, go to the right past the Museum door. At the end of the building, follow the path between the building and driveway to enter both Museum and Coffee House by a rear door. Wheelchair users may access the first floor of the building via our driveway. We regret that there is currently no wheelchair access to the second floor. Toilets, including disabled toilets and baby change, are located on the ground floor of The Folly.
