Wenns Chop House
Wenns Chop House, 9-10 Saturday Market Place, Smithfield Cottage, King's Lynn, Norfolk, PE30 4EQ
Two attractive but contrasting buildings make up the complex formerly known as Wenns. No. 9 is brick, rendered later, an early 18th-century two-storey building. Then no. 10, a mid-19th-century corner to the High Street with Ionic pilasters to the door. The building was first used as a pub in 1872, when the licensee was Simon Claxton Luckly, who was succeeded by James Wenn in 1877 and Lizzie Wenn in 1889.
This once very popular pub had deteriorated over the last two decades and it has been completely renovated. Some finance from the Heritage Lottery Fund via the Townscape Heritage Initiative.
Half-hourly tours are available to see the boutique accommodation upstairs which is not open to the public and hear the history of the building. Tours from 1300 to 1600.
