A rare chance to visit to one of Morton Peto's First Class seaside houses, built during the height of Victorian Lowestoft's prominance as a seaside resort. Includes exhibition from the Lowestoft War Memorial Museum archive and the Jarvis Collection.

Built in 1856 Wellesley House retains many original features and is unique among the other houses of Wellington esplanade being slightly wider than its twin the other end of the terrace. The house also has graffiti from soldiers billeted here in WW2 and an impressive shell burst scar from the 1916 German bombardment. The exhibition includes items from the archive of the Lowestoft War Memorial Museum and the Jarvis collection, including a sword reputedly left behind by Cromwell's army and china from the Royal Hotel, used during WW2 as the wardroom of HMS Europa.

Learn about the history of this house from the current custodian. Limited spaces and time slots available. Message directly to book. Only the dining room and ground floor are open to the public during this HOD, entrance is vis a flight of 8 stone steps, entrance door is located in Waterloo Road.
