Wanstone Battery is a time capsule from the darkest days of the Second World War. Now the subject of an exciting community archaeological project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, visit an area not usually open to the public.

Consisting of the Wanstone Battery and the Battle of Britain Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery D2, it was the largest gun battery ever built in Britain. Buried and covered in vegetation for many years, an urgent, volunteer-led project began in July 2022 to conserve the site. Visitors will be able to see the site and all the archaeological and conservation work which has taken place so far, including the emplacement of 'Jane'. Free event but normal parking charges apply.
