Walmgate Through Time

Willow House, Walmgate Bar, York, North Yorkshire, YO10 2UB

  • 07 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

In our FINAL open day at Willow House, come see how the area has changed (or not!) over the past several centuries.

Over the past 3 years, we have been excavating at Willow House for our Archaeology on Prescription programme. Alongside the excavations, we've also been digging into the archive to uncover hidden stories of the people who lived and worked in Walmgate. At "Walmgate Through the Ages," you'll be able to see the results of these excavations and research projects.

We'll have finds on display from our excavations, archival photos and maps, a special timeline activity, and of course, tours of the excavation trenches where we've been uncovering everything. There will also be special photo displays to show the physical changes of the area - and how you can still see the shadows of older buildings in the area!

Accessibility details

Despite being within the York city walls, we are at an archaeological site. There is no running water or electricity on site, though there are portaloos, including a wheelchair-accessible portaloo. Much of the ground is grassy and slightly uneven. There is no parking on-site. We have an accessibility guide available; email [email protected] for a copy.
