Walk through of Frimley & Camberley Urban District Council building
241 London Road, Camberley, Surrey, GU15 3HB
The Frimley & Camberley Urban District Council Offices have stood on London Road since 1908. 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Surrey Heath Borough Council and this building is part of their history. The building was converted into independent flats in 1988, however, a large part of the original 1908 building still exists. 11:00- 11:45, the event is a walk through of the building, looking at the original history and architectural features.
There is also an unveiling of two blue plaques at 12pm, congregating outside the building on London Road. One to mark the history of the building, the second marks the place where the first Motorcycle Scrambling race took place - The Victoria Pub which stood next to the council offices (now demolished). This race became the international sport, Motocross - hence Camberley is the birthplace of Motocross.
