  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Explore the landscape of Seaford Head and the Cuckmere Valley on this FREE Heritage Open Days walk with Helen Browning-Smith.

Join Helen, co-creator of 2023’s Walk the Chalk event, to revisit the fascinating history, geology, flora and fauna of Seaford Head, Hope Gap and the Cuckmere Valley. The walk takes place on a site of breathtaking natural beauty and special scientific interest, all in view of the most iconic coastline in England -the magnificent Seven Sisters.

This circular walk is part of the national Heritage Open Days festival. The Coastguard Cottages and Cable Hut at Cuckmere are towards the end of the walk and will also be open for Heritage Open Days. See friends-of-lewes.org.uk for more information.

The walk is suitable for all, but we ask that under 16s are accompanied by an adult. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on the lead.

There is one toilet at South Hill Barn, reserved for customers of the coffee wagon found in the courtyard. Enjoy coffee and cake either before or after the walk.

Bring a camera to capture the spectacular views. Wear warm, waterproof clothing if rain is forecast. Weather conditions can be dramatic at Seaford Head.

Walk intensity: Leisurely. There is one area of steep incline just beyond Hope Gap, and some rough ground on the route. Please keep at least 10 metres away from cliff edges.
