Trentham Hall and Gardens Film Show

Trentham Parish Church, Park Drive, Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST4 8AB

  • 06 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

A new film, with a compilation of images and vintage film footage, charting the the development of Trentham Hall and Gardens, presented by Ray Johnson of the Staffordshire Film Archive.

Join the audience for the first showing of this film in Trentham. It shines a light on the the beginnings of Trentham in the dark ages and the various manifestations of the Hall and gardens, as they passed through the hands of the Leveson-Gower family and the Dukes of Sutherland. Luminaries associated with the changing landscape and architecture included Capability Brown and Charles Barry. Film footage from the 1930s to the present day shows how, after the demolition of the Hall, the gardens became a popular rendezvous for people from the Potteries and across the Midlands. The much lamented Hollywood style swimming pool and ballroom see the light of day again and are bound to bring on a bout of nostalgia.
