Tower Tours at St Mary's Church, Thornbury

To celebrate Open Heritage Day on 14 September, St Mary's Church in Thornbury will be opening its church tower to visitors, offering a unique viewpoint of the South Gloucestershire countryside.
Visitors can climb the tower to the top and on the way learn about the church bells in the ringing room. The climb involves 133 uneven stairs and is quite a work out to reach the top. The climb is not suitable for children under 8 years old.
While the tours are free, booking is essential and subject to weather conditions.
The church offers wheelchair access, but unfortunately, the tower does not.
St Mary’s Church will be open but will still undergoing reordering work. Please be careful when visiting the church, although you will be able to see the progress made so far. St Mary's only opens the tower to the public once a year on this day, please seize this special opportunity to experience the unique vistas.

Access to the tower is restricted to those aged 8 and above. Unfortunately there is no disabled access to the tower but the main church is accessible to all. The west end of the main church is undergoing reordering work and will not be accessible to anyone on the day.
