Travel back in time at Trentham Parish Church and discover traces of past centuries and links to the Dukes of Sutherland. The Trentham Heritage Project will showcase local people and places, many lost in time and living memory.

St Mary and All Saints Church is a vibrant parish church with a continuous heritage dating back to the 7th century. Situated on the Two Saints Way between Lichfield and Chester, the church was rebuilt in 1844 to a design by Sir Charles Barry. The Grade II* listed building contains fine Minton tiles and memorials to the Sutherlands of Trentham Hall. On Heritage Open Day there will be information about the Two Saints Way and the local St Werburgh connection.

In the church vestry, the Trentham Heritage Project invites visitors to travel back in time and discover local people and buildings from the past. For over 300 years Trentham was a small ducal village, with most residents servicing the workings of the estate and its owners the Leveson-Gowers and the Dukes of Sutherland. Their influence was reflected in the architecture and design of the more distinctive buildings, particularly the palatial Trentham Hall. This was demolished and erased from the landscape in 1912, but a new film captures its different manifestations over previous centuries. The film also charts, with vintage film footage, the development of Trentham Gardens and its attractions, including the former Hollywood style swimming pool and famous ballroom, into its current guise as a popular leisure destination. Trentham’s past will be captured through displays and videos in the vestry and a full film programme in the adjacent church centre.
