Walk in the footsteps of William Booth, co-founder of the Salvation Army, on a trail through Nottingham as you find out about William's younger life and the people and places that influenced him.

Join the curator of the William Booth Birthplace Museum on a walking adventure around Nottingham as you follow a trail of historical facts to discover the truth about the co-founder of the Salvation Army's formative years in Nottingham. As you visit places associated with Booth, you will pass some of the city's sites of interest, including: the Council House, St Mary's Church, the Lace Market Theatre and St Stephen's Church (Sneinton).

To start, meet at 1030 directly outside the Nottingham Tourism & Travel Centre on Smithy Row, Nottingham NG1 2BY, just off Old Market Square. The whole event (guided walk with museum visit at the end) should last approximately 2 hours and is about 1.8 miles in length. Some uneven ground will be covered, so please wear suitable footwear. The walking tour will go ahead regardless of the weather. Free, but booking is essential (spaces are limited to 12 people).

Accessibility details

The William Booth Birthplace Museum, where the walk will finish, has an outside ramp and the ground floor is wheelchair accessible (but not the first or second floors). The museum has an accessible toilet. The walking tour is not wheelchair accessible and will cover approximately 1.8 miles (more miles if you elect to walk back to Nottingham city centre upon completion of the tour). Light refreshments will be available on the day at the museum.

Additional information

Wear suitable footwear for walking over uneven terrain and it's advisable to pack something to drink and a light snack, as we will not be stopping for refreshments along the way.
