The Shelleys and their bonds with Bath
Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution, 16-18 Queen Square, Bath, Somerset, BA1 2HN
What brought the Shelleys to Bath? This talk looks at the association that Percy, the Romantic poet, and his wife Mary, author of Frankenstein, had with Bath and of the time they each spent in the city. The works of both Percy, born into an aristocratic family but who was open to free thinking and of Mary, born into an intellectual family with William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft as parents, reflect the influence of the new ideas which were coming in at the time and being looked at. Their works came into prominence at the time that BRLSI was coming into being, which puts this talk at the heart of the era BRLSI is celebrating this bicentenary year.
