The Newsome Centre

The Newsome Centre (formerly St. John's Church), Jackroyd Lane, Newsome, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD4 6QU

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

The building (formerly St. John the Evangelist Church) will be open to visitors interested in local history. On the 7th and 8th of September we will be hosting Huddersfield & District Family History Society. Refreshments available.

The church was built in 1872 and served the local community until its official closure by the Church of England in 2023. The building was purchased by the local community in 2024 and is being renovated to serve the local community once more as a venue for a wide variety of purposes and events, including family celebrations, food festivals, and concerts, while maintaining the character and history of the building but making it more sustainable. There are a small number of war graves in the grounds and a register held in the building records their details.
