The Liberation Line – the last untold story of the Normandy Landings Talk

Stony Stratford Library, 5-7 Church Street, Stony Stratford, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK11 1BD

Leading railway historian Christian Wolmar explains how the railways supported the D-Day Landings both in England and in Normandy. An untold part of the military strategy.

Christian Wolmar’s latest book covers a lesser known aspect of the Normandy Landings. The railways played a crucial part in the invasion of France in June 1944, both transporting troops and materiel to the Channel ports and providing logistical support once the landings had succeeded. In some cases, new railways had to be constructed in Normandy because of Allied bombing campaigns. Without the railways, military success would not have been anywhere near as quick or certain. The talk is arranged jointly by StonyWords and the Friends of the Stony Stratford Library (FoSSL).
