The History of Deal's Piers

Royal Hotel Car Park, Beach Street, Deal, Kent, CT14 6JD

  • 07 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

A leisurely walking tour with commentary and photos to learn of the history of Deal’s three piers and its earlier jetties, along with structures that were never built.

The tour will start close to the site of Deal’s first pier, a wooden structure that was only extant from 1840-60. We will then stroll to the present pier to learn the history of its predecessor, the iron pier of 1864-1940, before concentrating on the pier we have today. Other marine structures that were planned but never built will also be mentioned.

Your hosts, National Piers Society archivist Martin Easdown and member Martyn Webster, are the authors of the recent definitive book on the subject.

The tour will take about an hour.
