A unique opportunity to visit the Grade 2 Listed 17th Century merchants house at The Hill, Stroud. Built in 1634 for Thomas Webb ’de Hill’. Discover many period features within the house and visit the purpose-built Masonic Room.

The Hill is an out-of-the-way ‘secret’ location within the heart of Stroud, an historic town based on the wool trade. The Hill’s location remains relatively unknown to a high percentage of the local population.

Built in 1634 for Thomas Webb 'de Hill' the 17th Century Cotswold stone-built merchants house still retains many of its period features including original oak wood beams & panelling and turn of the century Art Nouveau ceramic tiles.

Explore the main house and enjoy refreshments in our dining room overlooking the main landscaped gardens, with colourful flowers and summer hanging baskets facing out to the north, with the location’s high vantage point the gardens command beautiful views towards the hills above Randwick and in the far distance the Forest of Dean.

Tours of the purpose-built Masonic Temple (c1963), not normally open to the general public, allow the visitor the opportunity to discover a few of the Masonic secrets of the Temple, as well as displays of Masonic regalia and artifacts, guided by members of several of the Stroud based Masonic Lodges.

Today, The Hill is the home of around 10 Stroud based Masonic Lodges as well as a superb centrally located venue for Civil Weddings, Corporate Receptions, and all hospitality requirements.

The HOD open day is a fantastic opportunity to visit the house and gardens and find out about the history of this fabulous building as well as gaining an insight into some of the mysteries of its Masonic connection.
