  • 10 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Visit our historic site and learn about the fascinating history of the Great Hospital, first established in 1249 and still used today as accommodation for those in need. Go inside the stunning heritage buildings spanning from Norman to modern times.

You'll see the seventeenth-century wards, preserved as they were when they were last occupied thirty years ago, with the splendid ceiling complete with 252 black eagles, a tribute to Anne of Bohemia. You'll visit the elegant dining and music rooms of St Helen's House, designed by Thomas Ivory, in the mansion that he built for himself and his family in 1756. Go inside the Church of St Helen's and see the intricate ceiling bosses; visit the last remaining Swan Pit in Great Britain and walk in the stunning medieval cloisters.
