Explore the ways in which rural footpaths have become fossilised as urban ginnels, as green fields were developed into a built environment. The Great Ginnel is united by two footpaths, which are both long and ancient, two miles and medieval. From Hyde Park (Wrangthorn, as was) we shall make our way through a series of ginnels to the site of the medieval Wood Mill. Thence, we continue north, beside the Beck, then over fields and through ginnels, until we arrive (almost) at Weetwood Hall. A journey of two miles and nearly a thousand years…

Demanding walking conditions throughout, rough ground, some steep slopes/steps, slippery surfaces after rain, stout shoes are advised; not suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties.
Richard Tyler will be outside the Hyde Park pub from 09.45 onwards. The walk will end near The Stables Pub at Weetwood Hall where refreshments and toilets are available.
