Marvel at the amazing wooden structure still standing 630 years after having been built by the Monks from Waverley Abbey, and be fascinated by the exhibition showcasing 10,000 years of Wanborough history from prehistoric man to the SOE during WWII.

The 14th Century Great Barn of Wanborough is one of the oldest timber structures in South East England and an impressive and inspiring example of medieval design. Marvel at the skills of the monks and craftspeople who built this grand building.

The history of Wanborough is fascinating. The prehistoric man came to the area as a result of the water that collects in streams running off the Hog's Back, and it is this that attracted the Celts, the Romans, the Saxons, the Normans and many others to Wanborough - or Weneberge as the Saxons called it.

Illustrious visitors to Wanborough include Queen Victoria and Gladstone, whilst Prime Minister Asquith even lived here burying two of his daughters in our tiny churchyard. During the Second World War, the SOE were here using the Manor House as a training school for the French section.
