The Generator, alongside Loughborough Heritage Open Weekend
The Generator, Packe Street, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 3EZ
The Generator Hall, along with The Old Art College, are the last remaining Technical College buildings from the time of Herbert Schofield - an inspirational educationalist. The College provided training as industries developed in the late 19th and early 20th Century and formed the basis for the now internationally renowned Loughborough University. The extraordinary generators (U-Boat engines salvaged after WWI), in the Generator Hall, provided electricity for the many College buildings in the centre of the town.
The iconic space of the Generator Hall will be an inclusive arts and culture centre serving the diverse communities of Loughborough.
The builders currently occupy the building (as of April 2024), and the building will be completed in Spring 2025. This is a very unique opportunity for a tour whilst building work is underway.
Once complete, the Generator will run events, performances, programmes, exhibitions and initiatives that celebrate the richness of diversity and encourage dialogue, understanding, and connection.
