An illustrated talk about the development of tourism in Britain and Ireland in the 18th century by Professor Jim Watt from the school of 18th century studies at York University, to be held in the ballroom of Doncaster's Georgian Mansion House

Professor Jim Watt is Professor of English and Director of the Centre for 18th Century Studies at the University of York, His publications include the essay collection (co-edited with Alison O'Byrne) Discovering Britain and Ireland in the Romantic Period: Grand Tours (Cambridge University Press), forthcoming in November.
The talk will be followed by tea coffee and biscuits.

There are steps up to the entrance, so access for wheelchair users or people who find stairs difficult is via the Tourist Information Office next door. The Ballroom is on the first floor and there is a lift. However, because of fire regulations, no more than one person who would need to be evacuated using an evac chair can be accommodated.
