The Boat House
Location details available on ticket, West Borough, Poole, Dorset, BH
The Boat House was built in 1936 to accommodate the Second-Class drawing room and officers’ cabins from the great Cunard liner RMS Mauretania launched 1907. She was the fastest ship afloat for nearly twenty-two years. During WWI she was painted in dazzle camouflage and served as a troop and hospital ship. Taken out of service in 1934 she was berthed at Southampton docks and her beautiful interior fittings sold at auction. During WWII the Boat House was part of the Coastal Defenses Zone.
