The Big Halton Heritage Nature Watch

Mersey Gateway Environmental Trust and Hazlehurst Studios invite you to our Big Halton Heritage Nature Watch, part of Halton's 50th Anniversary celebrations and Heritage Open Days - Welcome to England’s largest festival of history and culture!
Join us on the 14th of September from 1100 to 1500 for a family-friendly walk from Runcorn Promenade to Wigg Island, nature spotting along the way. Once at Wigg Island, we will spend a few hours connecting to Heritage and Nature through walking, art, and ecology.
Artists from Hazlehurst Studios will show us how to use our camera phones to highlight the sometimes-hidden beauty of nature that surrounds us. They will teach us to take a longer look at usually overlooked details through sketching and mark-making techniques. Staff from the Mersey Gateway Environmental Trust will teach plant identification and survey techniques, with tips on how to record wildlife on your phone. These activities will encourage us to stop and take moments to notice what we see and feel, helping us connect more to ourselves and nature.
MGET will talk about Halton’s industrial and environmental heritage and showcase the changes in local flora and fauna over the last 50 years through visual data presentations. They will also demonstrate wildlife identification techniques and give tips on how to record nature on our phones.
Participants may wish to download the iNaturalist app before the event: iNaturalist. Don’t worry if you don’t have a phone yourself.

Accessibility details
The walk to Wigg Island is relatively step free, but there is no access to public toilets once on Wigg Island or access to refreshments. There is also limited/no shelter, so people should dress accordingly.
