The Bells of Brierley Hill
St. Michaels Church, Bell Street South, Brierley Hill, West Midlands, DY5 3EX
The bells of St Michael have been ringing for almost 125 years. They were the first Black Country bells to be installed using the Simpson Five Tone method. This year a YouTube video of the bellringers created by Historic England and Wild Rice films went viral and was viewed over eighty three thousand times (search YouTube for "The Bells of Brierley Hill")
Now for Heritage Open Days the bell ringers would like you to join us to chime one of our church bells, or to have a go at handbell ringing on our 150 year old handbells. There is also the opportunity to visit our normally out of bounds ringing room.
Visit Sunday ringing from 0950-1030 on Sunday 14th September - 8 places, booking required at brierleyhill.net
Visit a ringing practice on Friday 19th September at 7.30pm OR 8.15 pm - learn about bell ringing and have a go at ring a bell - booking required at brierleyhill.net
Visit the ringing room on Heritage Open Day 1000-1200 - no booking required. You will be able to have a go at ringing and learn how ringers compile 'tunes' to ring.
