The Armitt: Behind the Storeroom Door
The Armitt, Rydal Road, Ambleside, Cumbria, LA22 9BL
For one special day The Armitt is not only opening the doors to the museum for free, but also the door to the storeroom! You will have the opportunity to book onto a timed tour which will allow you to see objects not currently on display and learn about how the museum archives the collection. The theme of routes, networks and connections will be explored too.
When tours are not taking place, members of the team will be actively checking, marking and repackaging collection objects. Please ask questions and maybe get involved yourself!
This is a unique chance to get up close and personal with aspects of a museum not often on show to visitors. So join in, expand your idea of what museums do and discover how the objects, their stories and associated people create vast routes, networks and connections across Ambleside and the Lake District.

There is no onsite parking for visitors except for some accessible parking spaces - one in front of the museum and two in front of the neighbouring building. Please note there are two steps into the storerooms but the museum does have a chairlift which moves between the ground floor and first floor for the displays.
