The 90s Revisited: Roots and Connections of Berwick-upon-Tweed

Berwick Youth Project have been collecting photographs and memorabilia from local groups and clubs from the period of 1990s to display for members of the public to view and reminisce on. Our take on the theme of Networks, Roots and Connections, for this year’s Heritage Open Days has been to focus on the personal roots and connections of the residents of Berwick-upon-Tweed to their hometown. The groups and connections we have featured in our displays have all been a big part of the town and are synonymous with what Berwick upon Tweed has always been; a small community with a great sense of connection to our town. Many of these groups and clubs have been going long before the 1990s, and continue to evolve and grow with the generations who interact with them. We believe that it is important to showcase the people, groups and clubs that have been an integral part of what Berwick upon Tweed is as both a hometown and a community to many.

We have chosen to focus our efforts specifically on the 1990s as this was a huge time for Berwick Youth Project, we opened our doors on for the first time in 1995, and like many of the groups and clubs showcased in our exhibition, we have continued to grow and evolve to suit the needs of our community.
