Tewkesbury, Toll Routes, Two Rivers Connecting History
64 Barton Street, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, GL20 5PX
Tewkesbury Museum welcomes you to new display areas and new access to the top floor, following eight months of hard work from volunteers, a generous grant from the Museum Estate and Development Fund, the Town Council, and Local Contractors with expertise to renovate the roof, and extensive internal restoration during the winter months. The new displays feature Tewkesbury, known as a historic hub for trade. Two rivers meet and converge with ancient toll routes, a place where crossing the river was possible and a vital communication route, for the Romans and Medieval 1471 Battle of Tewkesbury. Tewkesbury Museum's new displays include a joint river-themed project with the local school community, Alderman Knight School, for Open Heritage Week. In our partnership with volunteers' local guided walks, you will be able to see the evidence of trade and communication throughout the history of Tewkesbury. You can even answer our quiz, as you explore the ancient maps, displays, and an accessible interactive touch screen!

Tewkesbury Museum has a very narrow entrance and as this is an old building, there are steps on every floor making access difficult. We have a small area where pushchairs can be left. We have a new touchscreen on the ground floor, to show artifacts and upper-floor displays, for people who are unable to use the stairs.
We are a site run by volunteers and we focus on local Tewkesbury history, the children enjoy our Fairground and Battle Field displays. We have artefacts and displays for Open Heritage Week to show local routes, trade networks and connections! There are good coffee shops and restaurants close by with public toilet facilities in the main carpark. Tewkesbury is a friendly place and looking forward to meeting you!
