Tenbury Tracks
Tenbury Wells Museum, Goff's School, Cross Street, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, WR15 8EF
Tenbury's railway provided passenger transport to connect to Ludlow for residents and secondary school pupils as well as many freight services carrying orchard fruits vegetables and hops. It was also used for troop movements in the war. The watery links; are provided by the town's situation on the River Teme and its 15th and 17th century arched bridge which has a distinctive bend halfway across and a county change marked in the middle from Shropshire to Worcestershire. Its origins were a ford crossing and it was used as a Midlands to Wales packhorse route again for the ancient method of transporting goods. Other information will be available on the abandoned Teme Valley Canal which was intended to provide a transport link from the rural towns of Kington, Leominster and Tenbury Wells to the navigable river Severn at Stourport on Severn.
For Heritage Open Days, we shall also host hands-on activies availble for children.
