Taster Trip on MK Community Boat Electra with A Short History of MK Canals
Campbell Wharf, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK9 4BG
Our trip begins southwards from Campell Wharf along the canal to Springfield, passing the start of the proposed new Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway Park that will link the Grand Union Canal in Milton Keynes with the River Great Ouse in Bedford. The boat then winds (boating-speak for turn round) and cruises past the Wharf, under the iconic new 3-way canal bridge, and turns again just before the old Blue Bridge, to end back at the Wharf. Cruises are run by volunteer Skippers and Cabin Hosts.
Disembark and join the shore crew in the Electra Welcome Centre for a short, illustrated history of why and how the Grand Union canal – and its “arms” - came to be built through the area that is now Milton Keynes. There are seven generations of history to MK Canals, from their start to their heyday, from their decline to their revival, and now their repurposing to meet the needs of the future.
Trip 30 minutes. Talk 15 minutes. Time afterwards to chat to our friendly land crew for more information and refreshments.
