Talk given by two people about free-mining
The Main Place, Old Station Way, Coleford, Gloucestershire, GL16 8RH
Paul and Ian are not themselves able to register to be a freeminer as neither of them were born within the "Hundred of St. Briavels". There are no local maternity units so the person would now have to be born at home. In addition to the birth-right to become a free miner you have to work a year and a day before claiming the right.
Currently there are (???) gales registered, (??) of which are currently being worked. Freemining is not affordable as a full time employment these days, so most do so at weekends.
