Sweet Track Walk

Preserved in the peat of Shapwick Heath for nearly 6000 years, the timber trackway offers a fascinating insight into prehistoric engineering, woodwork and travel. Led by Ranger Jon Macaulay, this exclusive 3-hour tour will start at the Avalon Marshes Centre and take you onto the Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve.

Park and meet at the Avalon Marshes Centre, before journeying onto the Shapwick Heath NNR by foot. The route of the tour encompasses the Sweet Track Trail within the flooded woodland and reed swamp of the reserve, which is unsuitable for wheelchair users. In places it will include narrow paths, steps, and stiles. Please wear suitable clothing.
