Visit 1 High Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, to learn about the town's StratFire Project, which is researching buildings around the time of the fires of 1594, 1595 and 1614. Explore the Stratford of Shakespeare's time and learn about tree-ring dating.

StratFire is a four-year collaboration between the Stratford Society and Historic England. The project is exploring the town's medieval buildings (in High Street and Chapel Street), including reconstruction, in the wake of the disastrous town fires of 1594, 1595 and 1614. The work includes building surveys, dendrochronology (tree-ring dating) and research into local families.

Come along to 1 High Street, the former home of Judith Quiney, Shakespeare's daughter, which is one of the buildings being researched, and learn more. Videos, a display telling the stories of the buildings, dendrochronology (tree-ring) samples, and handouts available.

Accessibility details

Being on the first floor of an old building (with stairs only), in the centre of town, we regret that the site is not accessible for wheelchairs or pushchairs/prams or dogs. There is also no parking on site although there is parking available in the town. Toilets are nearby in Bell Court (shopping arcade) and on Waterside, by the river. Coffee shops and places to eat are also available nearby.

Additional information

Enjoy a lovely day out in Stratford-upon-Avon on Friday 6th September, and combine this with a unique visit to 1 High Street (currently occupied by the Shakespeare Distillery), the former home of Shakespeare's daughter, Judith Quiney. Between 11 and 2, on the first floor of the building, you can find out more about the StratFire Project, which is investigating the old buildings of High Street and Chapel Street. Talk to those involved with the project, watch the videos, look at the display and get information to take away. A rare opportunity to explore the hidden side of Stratford's history.
