St Peter's church, Thornton is a Grade 1 listed, medieval church, listed in Simon Jenkins book, 1000 Best Churches. There will be an exhibition in church entitled 'Historical Thornton' taking place over the weekend.

This old and beautiful church, of medieval origin dates from the 13th century and is Grade 1 listed. It holds a unique place in the county, and its contents are of great historical interest. Medieval stained glass, linen fold pews from 1560, a working clock over 400 years old, a mid Victorian organ recently completely refurbished are just a few of its assets. These features survive today because, fortunately, no restoration was carried out during the Victorian era. At Christmas 2019, St. Peter's increased its peal of bells to six.
The church has the back drop of Thornton Reservoir a local beauty spot, and easy walking - a circular walk of approximately 3 miles.
The exhibition will include the history of the church, local history and church events.
