Check out this medieval city centre church with a tower from 1758 and interior with a 17th Century pulpit and interesting memorials.

St Peter's is a multi-period church with surviving medieval features. There is a wall niche in the south aisle of the church, a remnant of the medieval church wall. The original central tower was replaced with a west tower in 1758. The clock was added to the tower in 1866. An earthquake in 1692 caused damage to the church and the windows at the aisles are subsequent to this date. Wrought-iron scroll work on the door at the southwest corner is particularly fine and is believed to be from the 13th century. Steps leading down to an unusual charnel house built in the early 16th century are at the northeast corner. The pulpit is a fine piece of late 17th century work and the massive font is from 1859 by C F Hayward. The galleries with their attractive panelling were added in the Georgian times (18th century). See the website for more information.
