Visit the grade I listed mediaeval church of St Nicolas and learn about its surprising connection to Captain Bligh of the Bounty!

Prior to Captain Bligh’s navigational survey of the Humber in 1797, St. Nicolas’ church acted as one of many reference points, on both banks of the river, that helped to guide mariners along the meandering route of this major estuary.

Accessibility details

If we open the tower access will be limited to the ringing room and bell chamber, we will not be going on to the tower roof. Access is via a stone spiral staircase so participants should be in good physical health.
